For a long time I wanted to make a new shoulder creature that made the most of the medium of 3d printing: a clockwork gold dragon. I finally decided this was the year, and if I hurried I could finish it in time for the Labyrinth of Jareth Ball.
Over the course of 2 months I concepted, modeled, printed, and painted the piece. The articulation was inspired by other figures I had seen that used ball sockets and elastic cord to create poses that held in place.
The wings and ears are painted foam, as those areas would be thin and more prone to breaking.
The chest contains a battery pack, which connects to wires that run through the neck to an LED in the head.
